Preface

The familiarization and acquaintance with different navigation and communication equipment as well as the handling of different types of ships is essential knowledge for safe pilotage. Improving the hydrographic and topographic proficiency of the coastal navigation areas. Training and exercising of shiphandling and manoeuvring skills in extreme, uncommon but realistic scenarios is of extreme importance for professional pilots and exclusively practicable in a simulator.

Objectives Basic skills: Basic shiphandling theory and hydrodynamics.
Advanced skills: Practical shiphandling in complex and difficult situations.

  • Basic shiphandling theory.
  • Manoeuvring various types of ships in different scenarios.

  • Tug handling and berthing/unberthing.
  • Towing and anchoring.
  • Shiphandling in shallow waters and narrow passages.
  • Special pilotage techniques.

Comments

Simulation sea areas, ship models and additional require- ments have to be adjusted with customer. Course duration and complexity depend on customer requirements and participants state of knowledge. Combination with other courses and topics is feasible.
